I don’t know about you but laundry is my least favorite chore. It NEVER ends! Sorting through piles of clean clothes folding for hours is the worst. Since this is my least favorite chore I was on a quest to find the easiest, simple way to do laundry. What shortcuts could be taken to make this a no hassle chore for our family?
I started by asking my sister-in-law what her tricks were for laundry, she was a busy mom with four boys and always seemed to be on top of it. And she did not disappoint (thanks sis). I’ve taken her advice and adapted it to the best laundry system ever!
GAME CHANGING LAUNDRY SYSTEM:
For a simple and game-changing laundry system for those with families look no further! If you are always drowning in laundry, this is the system for you.
Grab a Hamper
First, each family member and/or closet (for those sharing a room) needs a laundry basket of their own I love the simple pop up ones from Amazon like these hampers.
Pick a Day of the Week
Assign each family member and/or closet a specific day of the week to do laundry. The same day each week is set aside as laundry day for a selected family member. To keep things simple, throw that laundry into the wash in the morning, then dry and put it away back in the closet that day. SIMPLE! If you want to do so you can sort the laundry for the day by colors, textures or whatever you fancy and still be able to keep to a person a day system.
Assign one day to sheets and for towels you can do them as needed throughout the week as an easy load or you can assign towels a day each week as well. If you have any days left over, those can be for catching up or no laundry needs to be done that day!
Get the Kids Involved
This system makes sharing responsibility easier for children. My nine, eight and five year olds are in charge of their own laundry. They bring their hampers to the laundry room, toss clothes into the washing machine, turn it on, and toss in the soap. Then they switch the clothes to the dryer, and after it’s done they take their clothes back to the room in the hamper and put away. And you know what that means for me?? Less laundry for me! Wohoo!
When assigning laundry days, make sure to consider what makes sense for each family member. If you know Wednesdays are a busy day for everyone, maybe that can be towel day.
I’ve attached a free printable for you to set up your own Laundry Schedule. Just stick it on the laundry room door, grab those adorable hampers for each room, and enjoy less laundry!
